Forget Candy & Flowers...Look What I got Instead!!!

Hubby and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary on April 29th.  He got me the most beautiful pink tulips ever.  And instead of getting me more flowers and candy for Mother's Day (which was not even a week and a half later) he decided to get these for me instead.  Boy, does he know me or what?  I guess after being married as long as we have it's really no surprise he would know exactly what I would want.  :)

He thought it was about time that I retired my old cheapo dollar store mini hot glue gun and the lowest level staple gun ever made to man.   He replaced them with a much improved upgraded more professional mini hot glue gun and a combo staple & nail gun. Thank you, honey!  Isn't he sweet?!  But what I was really most excited about was getting this!

Yup!  My very own Kreg Jig.  Technically, this was supposed to have been an anniversary gift for both of us.  But hubby said this was in addition to my Mother's Day gifts.  Details.  Details.  I am just happy that WE now own one.  He knew I really wanted this after I saw it for the first time being demonstrated not too long ago on Young House Love.  And I know for a fact that hubby will definitely be using this little baby too.  I seriously can't wait for us to use it!  My mind is spinning thinking of all the awesome projects we can make with this thing.

Check out these shelves that John at YHL made with the Kreg Jig.  LoveLoveLove.  I might just have to make me a few of these to put in my kid's playroom/den.

How super cute do these shelves look in John and Sherry's recently completed baby nursery?  Click here for John's tutorial on how to make these shelves using the Kreg Jig.

And while your at it, check out the angle chair that Ana at Knock-Off Wood made using her Kreg Jig.  Click here to read more about how she does it.  Here is the angled chair in its' natural state.  Simple, but oh so sweet.

Here is the same chair with a dark stain on it.  Check out her perfect angles.  She is so purr-ty.  Don't you just love it?

Now stay tuned to see what the hubby and I come up with using our newly owned Kreg Jig.  I am so excited!  Hmm...the possibilities.  Do any of you already have a Kreg Jig?  What DIY project have you tackled using this awesome tool

Oh, by the way- I hope all you mom's out there had a wonderful Mother's Day.  I definitely did!

Repurposing Everyday Glass Objects

There are a number of creative ways to repurpose everyday glass objects that you may have lying around the house.  Take for instance a large glass serving bowl.  You can use it to store and display fruit, or you can use it to store your television, cable box and all other (useless) remotes like we do in the family room.  I just added a book to fill up the space in the bowl in order to keep the remotes from sliding all around.  Excuse the fingerprints.  This bowl gets used on a daily basis here :)

How about a glass fish bowl?  Not only are they good for housing goldfish they are good for housing a candle as well.  I added a few leaves that I took off the stems of faux flowers to dress it up a bit.

I just happened to have two of these bowls just lying around.  I decided to add the bowls as space fillers to go in between my dining room centerpiece which already consisted of a glass vase of hydrangeas with black river rocks and two hurricanes with candle pillars inside.  Who doesn't love having more candles at a dining table?

Here is a glass bowl from ZGallerie that I received as a present many years ago.  This glass bowl at one point in time used to hold potpourri linen flowers. How predictable.  Well, now it holds extra rolls of toilet paper in our master bathroom.  Our toilet itself has its' own separate room away from everything else.  So this was the perfect storage alternative since there was no other storage solution for us.  It may be a bit unconventional for some people.  But storing tp can still look just as pretty being displayed in a glass bowl as it can in a basket.  At least you can reach over and grab yourself a new roll of tp when you run out.  No yelling involved.  Just saying :)

And how about a pretty glass butter dish?  Not only can it hold butter, but it can hold pretty things on your bathroom counter like perfumes and colognes.  It gives it a little vintage look.

I even have a little votive candle holder in there.  But instead of putting a votive candle in it I put my lipsticks and sample perfume vials that my kids like to collect from the lovely perfume ladies that hand them out in the mall whenever we go.

Or you can even use the glass butter dish to hold jewelry like necklaces and bracelets.  This is convenient to have on your night stand before going to sleep.  It can make such a pretty display.

Okay.  So there you have it.  These are just some simple ways that I repurpose everyday glass objects in my house.  How about you?  Do you have any creative ideas you can share that work around your house?  I would love to hear them
